Our inability to let go of spectacle is killing people
I’m writing this the day after another Super Bowl has taken place. This one between two teams, some people performed songs in the middle, and one of them was victorious. Tho the real winners of the night (and every night like it) is our Parasite Class. Those absolute drains on humanity that run our lives in corporate offices and government ones. They sit back in their gazillion dollar personal suites and take it all in like the Roman’s of old. While the plague rats run around guzzling alcohol and beating their chests like we imagine the very first people to stand upright did all those millennia ago.
The NFL is particularly egregious due to its toll it takes on its players and the overt racism of its practices, but it is far from alone in it’s ability to keep an otherwise restless and beat up society (namely genocides committed both home and abroad) pacified and subdued. Everything from The Olympics, To the Oscars, to the Grammy’s can be included here and should. Our “famous” and “beautiful” get up in front of us for a couple of hours and we are mesmerized to the point of anger at any acknowledgement of this. We go gaga at how they dress, what platitudes they throw out to make them sound like they exist on the same plane as us (they don't).
They do all of this to reinforce the idea of inevitability that capitalists have worked over time to instill into our brains from birth. We have been a part of the worlds most intense programing and pacification initiative ever seen. We are the collective end result of MK Ultra, Cointelpro, Operation Chaos and all the others we dont know the names of because they are still being refined and workshopped on us as we speak. Now you may be saying to yourself at this point, “but, Ryan… you sound crazy-pants” and to that I would counter with The Panama Papers, The Pentagon papers, and of course the Epstein Files. (also just a side note but the term conspiracy theorist was created as a thought terminating way to describe people who had doubts about the Church committee’s findings on the JFK assassination).
As always I try not to just be a Debbie Downer (another thought terminating cliche), but offer some hope in this time of monsters. Turn off the tv, get a library card, join a reading group, learn to protect yourself, eat better, drink water (i know but it really is important). Some people may not be able to do all of these for varying reasons, thats ok, do what you can. Prepare for whats coming HOWEVER you can. Only you understand your limitations and what you are or are not capable of. If you are interested (please be interested) I'm part of a collective called Stop Gen Ai.
